Buddy Holly is an American rock and roll singer and musician from the years of the birth of this musical genre. Though he died only 22 years old, he had a strong and lasting impact on popular music and is one of the first involved in the Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame. Buddy Holly is an inspiration for artists such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Beach Boys and Bob Dylan. In 2004, the Rolling Stone magazine put him 13th among “The Fifty Greatest Artists of All Time”.
Together with other famous artists Buddy Holly went on a three-week tour in the Midwest, which started on January 23, 1959. After its premature closure on 3 February 1959, shortly after takeoff, the small plane crashed near Clear Lake, Iowa, where the pilot Ritchie Valens, Buddy Holly and Giles Perry Richardson were killed. This day is called “the day the music died”. Buddy Holly was buried on 7 February that year in his hometown.
