Base Jumping is a dangerous sport which involves parachuting from any fixed structure. The name BASE is actually an acronym for building, antenna, span and earth. These are the structures from which the jumpers hurl themselves. This sport is definitely not for the faint hearted. The jumpers don’t wear much protection except a parachute. Since the sport started, over two hundred and fifty deaths have been recorded. There are many risks involved such as steering in the wrong direction, being thrashed by a strong gust of wind or simply opening the parachute late. Because of these risks, the sport is illegal in many countries unless there are organized events.
