The organization was established in Turkey in 1978 in consequence of the struggle of the Kurds for their own state. Because the Kurdish people is located on the territory of Turkey, Iran, Syria and Iraq, the group worked in a huge region and organized numerous attacks and terrorist attacks that led to the death of 4,000 people.
The leader of the KWP since its creation is Abdullah Ocalan, who was captured in Kenya in 1999 and sentenced to death.
Due to the abolition of the death penalty in Turkey, he received life imprisonment. Since then, the organization lost its power.
