Guning Bromo is an active volcano and a part of the Tengger massif in eastern Java. At height of 2329 meters, it is not the highest peak of the massif, but is the most famous. The region is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Java. From inside the crater white smoke is constantly going out. The overall impact is heavenly, especially when it is surrounded by lush green valleys around the massive Tengger.
On the Segara Wedi sand plain a Hindu temple is built – called Pura Luhur Poten. The temple holds a significant importance to the Tenggerese scattered across the mountain villages, such as Ngadisari, Wonokitri, Ngadas, Argosari, Ranu Prani, Ledok Ombo and Wonokerso. The temple organises the annual Yadnya Kasada ceremony which lasts for about one month.
